Am setting a 3 by 5 foot granite die on a base and will use Set-Rite setting compound and some dabs of Tenax Domo10 epoxy.
What thickness of spacers should I use? Need to balance setting compound with epoxy gap filling capability. 1/16 or 1/8 ?
Are four spacers enough given the size of the die or should I use six?
Is there any argument for using lead wedges rather than the plastic spacers?

Many modern monument companies will use 1/8" plastic spacers for all of their monument installation. The vast majority of the time only 4 spaces (1 in each corner) are used.
Plastic spacers are extremely hard and also slippery, especially on a polished stone.
An alternative option is to cut 4 small pieces of wedge lead. Lead will crush slightly, keeping the stone in place and if there are any small amounts of old bonding material or imperfections in the stone the lead will compensate for the difference. The #2 wedge lead is slightly thinner and would be my first choice for the majority of setting work.

Hello, I have a headstone to set and need an idea of how much setting compound I'll need. The base of the headstone is 42" x 8" (I know it doesn't affect the amount but the base is 54" x 14"). Thank you.
It's better to have a little more than not enough, so we recommend two pounds for this!

What is the temperature that it needs to be to set and for how many continuous days?
Monument setting compound can be used in any temperature, but it will perform best above freezing.
Because it is a putty and a glue it is not designed to harden quickly. It stays pliable under the surface for many years, although the outside visible portion will harden within a couple weeks.

If the compound got dry, can it still be used? Is it enough to maybe just add some water to it? Thanks
Before putting the compound away it is recommended you push it down and lay plastic or water over it to prevent it from drying out.
However sometimes it is still necessary to scrape off about 1/4" of dry compound off the top until you get to workable material.

Which pre-mix to use in placing stone in keyslot or keyway?
Monument Setting Compound is designed for joining a headstone to a base on a flat surface with no keyway.
If there is a keyway we recommend using historic pointing mortar, moderate strength - fine.

A headstone we want to reset has broken pieces we would like to reattach. What do you recommend to reattach the broken pieces prior to resetting the headstone?

Thanks for reaching out! If you have pictures to email over, images always help to give the best recommendation. It sounds like you could use the Endurance Monument & Gravestone Epoxy to repair the pieces before resetting. You can repair the break and then mix the epoxy with stone sand or colorant to create an infill material for the outer edge of the breaks.

I am considering mounting a small hollow resin statue to a flat, smooth surface granite gravestone. The statue measures approximately 10”L x 6”W x 14”H and weighs less than a pound. I would like a semi-permanent adhesive in case the statue ever needs to be repaired/replaced. Would monument setting compound, with its pliable inner consistency, be appropriate for this application? in resetting a monument, how thick should the putty be? &, do you reset the monument to the base immediately or do you let it dry a bit?
An average thickness for compound when first applied is between 3/8 - 1/2 inch thick.
After the momument is lowered, the compound will squeeze out and need to be trimmed. The trimmings can be re-used.
It is always best to set monuments on a clean and dry stone.
Spacers should also be used on each corner of the headstone.
For spacers we recommend Wedge Lead #2.

how much setting compound do I need for a 42" long, 13" wide, 4" thick upright die to put on a base?
You might be able to get away with a pint, but I would recommend the quart size to be sure. You can save any extra to reset another stone!

I have a hollow statue made with a resin stone mix over a fiberglass mold weighing 55 pounds. It has a solid base. Is Set-Rite a good choice to attach the statue to a smooth limestone base? Do I need shims?
Yes, the setting compound is perfect for this application. We recommend using lead spacers or all of the products in the Monument Repair Kit!
