Pure Swedish Boiled Linseed Oil

Swedish cold-pressed boiled linseed oil is of the highest quality. The oil is stored for at least 6 months after being pressed so that any slime products may settle. The oil is then heated to 140⁰C for seven days. It is a natural treatment without any chemical additives. The absolutely pure linseed oil is then decanted to another storage tank.

Linseed oil has a lower surface tension than water and therefore penetrates deeper than water into all forms of substrate. This ability renders it unrivalled where protection against wood rot is concerned. In addition to oiling, boiled linseed oil is used to dilute linseed oil paint outdoors. Boiled linseed oil dries substantially more quickly compared to raw linseed oil.

Applications: Use this organic boiled linseed oil as a base coat before linseed oil paint. Wood Shingles, Wood Siding, Wood Decks, Porches, Wooden Boats, undercoating for cars etc.

Paint Removing: Use to reconstitute old paint prior to heating with the Speedheater paint removal system. Softens paint layers and reduces paint dust created by scraping.

This product is not bleached or filtered. Not for food or hygiene applications. Not sensitive to freezing. Organic Raw linseed oil dries significantly slower than organic boiled linseed oil.

About Linseed Oil
MADE IN SWEDEN The Scandanavian people have known about the unique properties of linseed oil for several thousand years. Linseed oil penetrates into wood, protecting it from moisture and rot.

Linseed oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the flax flower. This is done "cold" to prevent impurities getting into the oil.

The raw linseed oil is purified and refined through the addition of oxygen to produce boiled or "cooked" linseed oil. This process eliminates protein and improves aspects such as the drying time, shine and purity. Purified linseed oil is mold and mildew-free.

Uses:

  • Thinning Linseed Oil Paint
  • Maintenance of old Linseed Oil Painted surfaces
  • May be used as a first coat as a primer on extremely dried out wood
  • Add a few ounces of paint to the boiled linseed oil to create a custom stain
  • Purified Boiled Linseed Oil is excellent for long term storage of paint brushes

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • How many feet dose a gallon cover?

    600-800 square feet per gallon

  • Is your boiled linseed oil highly combustible? What are your recommendations for storage in a hot climate?

When used or stored improperly there is a slight chance of combustibility although that is almost exclusively linked to rags soaked with linseed oil not properly disposed of, not the linseed oil itself. Storage wise we recommend keeping it sealed and stored between 50-70 degrees fahrenheit avoiding exposure to light. Excessive heat can cause the linseed oil to deterioriate and become rancid. Humidity is also a factor you'll want to keep in mind as high humidity levels can cause the linseed oil to oxidize faster leading to a shorter shelf life or introduce bacteria and mold compromising the quality of the oil.

  • Does this have an indefinite shelf life?

Yes! Our pure Swedish linseed oil will never expire. We recommend storing with the cap closed to prevent oxygen from getting into the container.

  • Swedish cold-pressed boiled linseed oil Is this product food safe? In other words, does it contain any additional chemicals?

The Swedish cold-pressed boiled linseed oil does not contain any additives or chemicals. It is completely pure and natural!

Excellent!

I refurbish and restore vintage hand tools (mostly axes). I want true, old-school materials AND I avoid toxic chemicals. AP’s pure Swedish BLO contains NO toxic heavy metal chemical additives. It is simply linseed oil!

This product works excellently, leaving all my projects well-preserved and well protected.

I’m a happy and loyal customer.

Incredible product

Such a supreme product. Very happy I ordered from them. Exactly what I expected and worked just as well. The smell gives me nostalgia from when my grandfather taught me to treat our leather baseball gloves with this stuff back in the day. I will be recommending this wherever applicable. You cannot go wrong. The packaging is great, and they also give you some extras in the package as well.

The best of the best!!

I have only reviewed one product online in my entire life, this is my second. This product is absolutely exceptional. What most people don't know is that the "boiled linseed" oil you buy at the hardware store isn't boiled at all. It's raw linseed oil with chemical dryers. It's less viscous yet it doesn't soak into the wood that well. It's mostly on the surface or slightly below. This product sold by Atlas Preservation is truly and undoubtedly boiled linseed oil. It has the consistency of honey but will soak into dry unfinished wood at an astonishing rate. It is the difference between being on the wood and in the wood. I implore anyone who is seeking linseed oil to get this. I would bet that the other brand Atlas has is also excellent. I'm kicking myself that I didn't also order the linseed oil wax. There's always next time. It amazes me that so few companies actually carry the real deal like this. I was only able to find two sources in the US when searching online. One of them was of dubious legitimacy and the other, Atlas Preservation was obviously legit. I will definitely be buying more when I run out. Thank you Atlas for being a one of a kind company and the last purist left.
