Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Difference in putty and glazing compound? Not sure what to use. I am refurbishing old windows and re-seating the glass.

This is what you want to use for your application. Sarco is called glazing putty or glazing compound. The terms are used interchangeably.

  • when you say 'intended for exterior site work' are you referring to where you plan to be doing the glazing? M is for glazing in the shop, and dual is for glazing out in the weather?

Yes Dual Glaze is for in the wall, and Type M is for on the bench.

  • I am using this to reputty some old windows. To prime the bare wood before using, should I use boiled linseed oil, or water based Kilz primer?

Sarco Putty Company recommends that if the wood is dry to use linseed oil but not a paint-based primer.

  • What is the solvent base for Dual Glaze Putty?

Sarco Putty is primarily composed of calcium carbonate whiting and oils (mostly linseed oil).

  • What is the shelf life (unopened) for both Sarco Dual Glaze & Type M.

According to the manufacturer, the shelf life is indefinite if stored in cool place. If separation occurs, mix by hand.  Cover unused putty in opened containers with plastic to prevent skin formation.

This product can be stored for up to 6 months after opening, in some cases it will last longer. This product is not flammable.
