  • Hi there. I'm making a custom mortar to fill the grout lines in a fireplace I just finished. I'm the homeowner. We used a light tan stone, and they're large pieces and we have joints up to 1-2 inches wides in some spots, mostly they're one inch or slightly less gaps. My goal is to create a linen colored mortar to fill the gaps. It's my understanding that I need to mix white cement, sand and color pigment to acheive what I'm going for. Would appreciate any recommendatons you might have on the website or products you'd point me to.

    Thank you for reaching out! You could use a number of materials here. You can use the white masonry cement + sand + pigment. You could also use the historic pointing mortar, which is already blended with sand and you could add the color pigment to that as well. There are a variety of options.
