Virtus Restoration Mortar is based on natural hydraulic lime (NHL) formulated for repair or replication of brick, stone and masonry, including ornamental mouldings, sculptures and architectural elements.

Properties

• No Portland cement or pozzolans
• Intense whiteness
• Based on Natural Hydraulic Lime
• Low shrinkage
• Thixotropic mortar
• High durability against salts
• Permeable to water vapor
• Can be pigmented or patinated to even out repair
• Allows architectural ornamentation and modeling
• Virtus Restoration Mortar allows the repair and reconstruction in thickness 0.2 to 2 inches (0.5 to 5cm) as well as the repointing of stones

Surface Preparation

• Remove loose flakes, particles, etc.
• Thoroughly damp down surfaces

Mixing
Mix thoroughly in a mortar pan for 5-10 minutes with a trowel or mortar hoe, until well-blended.
Mixed mortar should be a firm consistency, not watery
Ratio: approximately 1 quart water to 4 quarts repair mortar (1:4)

Pigmentation
Dry or liquid pigments which are compatible with masonry can be added up to 5% as needed to match substrate

Implementation

• Apply a ~1/8th inch scratch coat onto glistening surface to help create a bond
• Apply mortar in successive passes of 1/4 to 1/2 inches fresh on fresh
• The various passes, except for the last one, must be left rough
• Build up to desired thickness
• Can be carved, tooled, or textured while still in semi-plastic state
• Can also be carved after hardening, like stone.

After-care
Periodically mist for 72 hours
Protect from sun, wind or freezing

• Protect skin and eyes, rinse thoroughly with water in case of contact
• Immediately contact doctor incase of eye contact
• Keep out of reach from children
