  • wooden shims! I would think you would use a rot resistant wood such as cedar or cypress! Oak, etc. will not stand the test of LONG time. If setting compound is used and moisture is kept away from wood, then the oaks and other hard woods may be fine.

    The wood is not intended to be left underneath anything permanently. When monuments are normally installed, they are first placed on blocks of some thickness I have found through setting and installing thousands of monuments that half inch thick blocks are ideal for this process.

    In the setting process, the monument is placed onto the blocks, then the joining materials are placed, including normally spacers in the corners we highly recommend an epoxy putty internally, and also in many situations monument setting compound around the perimeter. The monument is then gently lifted from the edge, the blocks are removed one side at a time, and the monument is joined.
